Concepts

Sites for trades I have not built for yet.

A concept is a full website for a made-up business, built the way I would build yours. The business is invented, so there are no reviews and no numbers, and every page says so. What is real is the work, and the quote form, which works.

Brassline Plumbing

A one-page site for a plumber who prices from a photo. The quote form takes the job, the photos, the postcode and a phone number, then shows exactly what the plumber and the customer would each receive.

Things to try

  • Choose "water is leaking now" for the stopcock steps
  • Send the quote form, photo and all, and see both messages
  • Ask "do you cover me?" with a postcode outside Cardiff
  • Look for the concept notes, where the page explains itself

The rules

What is real, and what is not.

Real

  • The design, and every line of the build
  • The quote form: every step, check and message
  • How it works on a phone, and how fast it loads
  • The accessibility: keyboard, screen reader, reduced motion

Made up

  • The business and its name, checked so it matches no real one
  • The phone number, from the range Ofcom keeps for fiction
  • The email address, on a domain that cannot receive mail
  • The prices, which are labelled as examples
  • The photos and video, which are free stock, credited on the page
  • There are no reviews, figures or credentials, because none exist

Nothing a visitor types into a concept leaves their browser. A real homeowner who finds one by mistake is told, on the page, that the business is not real and who to call instead. Concepts are kept out of Google, so they never compete with a real plumber for a real search.

A plumber, and want one of these?

The real version carries your name, your prices, your area and your reviews, and the form goes to your phone.
