Power keeps tripping? Let's find out why before it happens again.
Faults, sockets, lights and fuse boards across east Cardiff and Newport. Tell us what's happening and we'll explain it before we start.
What's tripped?
Flip down the one that's down in your house.
Everything's on
Flip a switch down to see what it usually means, what's safe to try, and when to stop and ring.
Concept noteExample prices for a concept site. A real electrician would test before saying what's wrong.
Smell burning, see scorch marks or sparks? Turn off the main switch if it's safe to, and ring 999 if there's any fire. Whole street dark? Ring 105, the national power cut line.
Concept noteFfiws is made up, so its number won't reach anyone. 999 and 105 are real.

Which certificate should you get?
- EIC
New circuit or new fuse board: ask for an Electrical Installation Certificate.
- Minor Works
A small addition, like an extra socket on an existing circuit: ask for a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.
- EICR
Checking the wiring you already have: an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). Landlords in Wales need one at least every five years.
Some jobs, like a new circuit or a new fuse board, have to be notified to building control. Ask your electrician how they'll do that before they start.
Concept noteA real electrician would show their registration scheme here. Ffiws is made up, so it has none, and this page doesn't pretend otherwise.

Questions
Do I need a new fuse box?
Not always. Old doesn't mean unsafe. A test tells you whether yours needs replacing, and we'll explain what the test found before you decide anything.
Can you work while we're in the house?
Yes, for most jobs. Some work needs the power off for a while, so we'll tell you when and for roughly how long before we switch anything off.
How long does a condition report take?
Usually a few hours for a small home. Parts of the test need the power off, so it helps to know if there's anything you need running that day.
