Is your lock easy to snap?
uPVC and composite doors usually lock with a euro cylinder, the part your key goes into. You can check yours from the doorstep.
Does the cylinder stick out?
Look at the lock from outside. If the cylinder sticks out past the handle, it's easier to grip and snap.
Look for markings
Check the face of the cylinder, the end your key goes into, for a kitemark with three stars, or the words "Sold Secure Diamond".
If there's nothing there
Ask a locksmith about an anti-snap cylinder.

Just moved in?
You don't know who still has a key. Changing the locks means the only keys that work are the ones you're holding.
On a uPVC or composite door, it's usually just the euro cylinder that's changed: the handle and the mechanism stay. On a wooden door, the nightlatch or the mortice lock is replaced. You get the new keys before we leave.

Questions
Will you damage my door?
Most front doors open without damage, and we'll tell you on the phone whether yours is likely to. If a lock does have to be drilled, it's replaced so the door locks again before we leave.
Do I need to prove I live here?
Yes. Once you're inside, we ask to see something with your address on it, like a bill or a bank letter. It means we only ever open a door for the person who lives there.
Should I change the locks when I move in?
It's worth it, because you don't know who still has a key. On a uPVC or composite door it's usually just the cylinder that changes. From £85 a door (example).
